Through entrustment by local governments, Kaketsuken has performed screening tests for newborns which test for amino-acid metabolism disorder, hypothyroidism, as well as adrenal hyperplasia. Tandem mass spectrometry has been newly introduced and screening tests have begun for various metabolic disorders such as organic acid metabolism disorder and fatty acid metabolism disorder. These disorders can have a life-long effect, so with early detection, disease onset can be prevented through treatment with special milk etc. With this screening test for newborns which has been requested from different regions of Kyushu including the prefectures of Kumamoto, Fukuoka, and Saga, Kaketsuken has attained a reputation as a reliable testing institute.
Improving hygiene for animals as well as humans is an important enterprise and this is especially true for livestock. It has been over half a century since Kaketsuken began producing animal pharmaceuticals and is currently conducting clinical tests on animals as a technical service to farms in Japan. Specifically, antibody testing and microbiological/histo-pathological tests have been performed for various diseases in chickens and pigs, and the results have been managed and reported with promptness and accuracy. These test data are widely used in the epidemiological studies of diseases for farm hygiene measures and the outdoors in general, and are also being used for the development of new products against new diseases. Furthermore, such work leads to ensuring food safety and security, thereby contributing to human health and well-being.
