Blood plasma products

In the field of blood plasma products, safety and quality are our primary concern. KAKETSUKEN pays meticulous care and attention to all stages of the production process from the acceptance of plasma as source material to the finished product, and is very active in promoting safety measures such as the elimination and inactivation of infectious agents. For example, in order to ensure safety against viruses such as HBV (Hepatitis B Virus), HCV (Hepatitis C Virus) and HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus), several methods for effectively inactivating and eliminating viruses were introduced: The highly sensitive nucleic acid amplification test (NAT) for detecting viruses in the source plasma, the use of hollow fiber membrane to eliminate viruses and heat treatment for virus inactivation. Using state-of-the-art facilities incorporating such technology, the supply of superior and safe plasma products is maintained.

For coagulation factor concentrates which are essential for achieving hemostasis in hemophiliacs, KAKETSUKEN has Novact M, the pioneering product of a highly purified Factor IX concentrate for hemophilia B, which was successfully developed by immunoaffinity chromatography using anti-Factor IX monoclonal antibody In addition, KAKETSUKEN provides Confact F, a Factor VIII concentrate for Hemophilia A which can also be used as a hemostatic agent for the patients with von Willebrand disease.

Bolheal, an adhesive for living tissue, is one of KAKETSUKENfs main products, and is a groundbreaking product now widely used to assist in surgical operations. Bolheal also contributes to the efficient use of donated domestic blood. And, Venilon-I, a sulfonated immunoglobulin, which is the top-seller in KAKETSUKENfs superior product line, has shown high efficacy and safety since its initial development to its current application as a treatment for hypo-gamma globulinemia and patients with severe infection. In addition, it was subsequently applicable to Kawasaki disease, ITP (Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura), GBS (Guillain-Barre Syndrome) and CSS (Churg-Strauss Syndrome) and KAKETSUKEN is now aiming for the further expansion of its use. Anact C, an activated protein C product first developed by KAKETSUKEN is currently used as an orphan drug to treat congenital protein C deficiency.

From the fruits of such blood plasma fractionation products developed using high-level technology, KAKETSUKEN is in a position to contribute to domestic self-sufficiency in the supply of blood fractionation products.

Furthermore, we have been actively pursuing alliances with overseas companies to expand our business. KAKETSUKEN produces Anti-Thrombin III, a product originally developed by CSL Behring, which further contributes to domestic self-sufficiency in plasma derivatives.

KAKETSUKEN will continue to focus its attention on the effective use of plasma proteins for the prevention and treatment of disease.
